Our 40hr trip to Chicago

I’m so excited to share all of what we did on this quick trip to Chicago! We were able to get in so much more then I thought we would in the short amount of time we stayed. It was a mother/daughter trip that was long overdue as we haven’t gone anywhere together in forever. Whenever I visit a new place, I always like to search out healthier/farm to table restaurants. I’ll do this on Yelp or even on Instagram. I like to have a plan or at least idea of places I would like to go just so we aren’t scrambling when we get there! All of these places were easy enough to get into, but we also had reservations that we set ahead of time just in case.

Our plane got in at like 7:30am, so we had quite some time before anything really opened. We had made a reservation at Blue Door Farm Stand, so we headed that way so we could be first to get there when it opened. While waiting for it to open, we walked around the cute neighborhood and popped into La Colombe for an oat milk latte. I had seen some things about these drinks on Instagram, so I was excited to try it. Definitely recommend it. Once we wrapped up there, we went over to Blue Door Farm Stand for breakfast. There were so many good things on the menu but I went with the Brown Line which was a breakfast wrap & my mom went with the blueberry pancakes. Both which were so delicious. I loved the atmosphere of this restaurant which is something that I look for when choosing spots.

After having brunch, we went and did a little shopping on Michigan Ave. The tourist in me wanted to do a few touristy things while I was there, so we went over to Millennium Park where The Bean is and took some photos and hung around there for a little bit. It was so chilly though!!

We then walked to a Christkindl market that was happening which was so festive but it was way too crowded to get a drink or food. I’m sure it would be fun when the crowds weren’t as crazy as they were when we went!

For dinner, we went to a restaurant called Farmhouse Chicago and this was some of the best food I’ve had out in a long time. By this point, we were both so hungry so we definitely didn’t hold back on our ordering haha. We started with the seasonal flatbread which was amazing. I’m already looking at ways I can recreate it. It had sweet potatoes, chopped dates, arugula, cheese & this jam that was everything I ever need. I got the veggie burger and my mom got the grass fed burger as our main meal. We both split a side of brussel sprouts & Mac n cheese which may have been the best Mac n cheese I’ve ever had. And that says alot! The burgers were on homemade buns and were so good. I really am still dreaming about how good this meal was. It was also a cozy little spot and the perfect vibe for enjoying a glass of wine and delicious food. There were so many more things that I wish I could have tried, so I will definitely be coming back next time I’m in town!

The next day we got up early and went to SoulCycle for a little sweat sesh before beginning the day. I love working out while I am out of town because it makes me feel good before exploring new areas. I’m glad my mom loves it just as much as I do too. After class, we went right next door to Goddess and the Baker for some coffee and a little food. I got the apple butter oat milk latte which was SO good and my mom got the matcha latte. We also shared a gluten-free carrot raisin muffin and avocado toast. The muffin was so good & all of their baked goods looked so yummy! The drink menu had so many options too and so many that I would have loved to try. Cute spot so I would definitely go back!

We spent the early afternoon doing a little more touristy things by going to the Skydeck which was such a cool experience! I think it’s a Chicago must if it’s your first time visiting the city. Plus it makes for some pretty cool photos 😉 From there we went to shop a little more and then went to grab salads at Sweetgreen. I’ve missed this spot! The best place to get salads as big as your head and they always hit the spot. I usually always add it to my list of places to go to if they have one in the city that I’m visiting.

We finished the trip by walking around the city more and then grabbing some Garrets popcorn to take home with us. The line was out the door for this stuff!

It was such a great trip and a fun little get a way with my mom. I’m already looking forward to going back because I love that city! I loved how walkable it was and although it was cold, you acclimate pretty quickly 😉 Have you been to any of these spots!? Where should I go next time I visit?

Talk soon, Taylor.
